What you need to apply for an LC in Sri Lanka
 

Before starting your import, you must speak directly with your bank and confirm if they can issue a Letter of Credit (LC) for you. This is just a verbal confirmation — you don’t need to submit any documents at this stage.

This is the foundation of the import process—without LC approval, your vehicle cannot be purchased.

Most banks will require:

• Proforma Invoice (PI)—issued by YND Auto Imports after the auction win.

• National ID / Passport – proof of your identity.

• Tax Identification Number (TIN)—mandatory for import transactions.

• Sufficient Bank Balance—to cover the vehicle’s CIF value and charges.

• LC Application Form—provided by your bank.

• Import License (if applicable)—depending on the vehicle category.

Documents needed for Customs after LC is opened

When the vehicle arrives in Sri Lanka, customs clearance will require:

• Customs Goods Declaration (CUSDEC)

• Commercial Invoice

• Bill of Lading or Air Waybill

• Delivery Order from shipping agent

• Value Declaration Form

• For used vehicles:

   

  • Export Certificate (with English translation)

  • Pre-Shipment Inspection Certificate (from an approved agency)

  • Certificate of Cancellation of Registration (if previously registered abroad)

❗ Important Note

• If your bank declines the LC after you win a bid, the LKR 125,000 YND service fee is non-refundable.

• Ensure that your bank confirms LC eligibility before proceeding to Step 2.

• YND and our licensed customs agent will handle the customs registration and clearance process on your behalf.
