What you need to apply for an LC in Sri Lanka
Before starting your import, you must speak directly with your bank and confirm if they can issue a Letter of Credit (LC) for you. This is just a verbal confirmation — you don’t need to submit any documents at this stage.
This is the foundation of the import process—without LC approval, your vehicle cannot be purchased.
Most banks will require:
-
Proforma Invoice (PI)—issued by YND Auto Imports after the auction win.
-
National ID / Passport – proof of your identity.
-
Tax Identification Number (TIN)—mandatory for import transactions.
-
Sufficient Bank Balance—to cover the vehicle’s CIF value and charges.
-
LC Application Form—provided by your bank.
-
Import License (if applicable)—depending on the vehicle category.
Documents needed for Customs after LC is opened
When the vehicle arrives in Sri Lanka, customs clearance will require:
-
Customs Goods Declaration (CUSDEC)
-
Commercial Invoice
-
Bill of Lading or Air Waybill
-
Delivery Order from shipping agent
-
Value Declaration Form
-
For used vehicles:
-
Export Certificate (with English translation)
-
Pre-Shipment Inspection Certificate (from an approved agency)
-
Certificate of Cancellation of Registration (if previously registered abroad)
-
❗ Important Note
-
If your bank declines the LC after you win a bid, the LKR 125,000 YND service fee is non-refundable.
-
Ensure that your bank confirms LC eligibility before proceeding to Step 2.
-
YND and our licensed customs agent will handle the customs registration and clearance process on your behalf.
